Mitigating Religious fundamentalism; an inclusive approach…

The project was implemented in 2011 and it addressed Religious Fundamentalism using an inclusive approach to the war on Terror. It was implemented at a time when Uganda was still healing from the 2010 bomb attacks in Kampala which claimed over 100 lives. It aimed at understanding the magnitude of religious extremism in Uganda in the districts of Kampala, Mbarara, Arua and Iganga.

The project highlighted the need for collective effort for combating the threat of terrorism in the country and the region at large. It also improved the relationship between security and civil society in jointly addressing the war on terror whereby all stakeholders feel as part of the mitigation process and not only security based. It also increased vigilance by management in most social places including the purchase of gadgets that detect nuclear related chemicals. It was supported by the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA).
