Our programs and prjects are focused on our primary areas of impact that help people achieve peace and Hamony thus strengthen communities.  We envision a world at peace, sustained by engaged and interconnected communities committed to respect for diversity, nonviolent resolution of conflict and social, political, economic and environmental justice.

Promoting Women’s Property Rights Project Eastern Uganda

 

 

This project was aimed at addressing property injustices committed against women in Eastern Uganda particularly Jinja and Mayuge Districts implemented for two years from 2017 to 2018. This was done by building the capacity of Community Facilitators (CFs) in legal, human rights, mediation, and communication skills to tackle this challenge.

Monitoring the Electoral Members of Parliament, LCV and Councilors

 

The project was aimed at building a strong electorate that is able to hold the elected members to commit to their electoral promises which in effect would contribute towards effective service delivery and took a course of four 4 years until 2019. It was targeting political leaders, parliamentary and local government candidates

Mediation Program for Land Based Conflicts in Northern Uganda

The activities under this project included raising community awareness on the land tenure systems and land rights, round table discussions by community leaders, cultural leaders, and members of the district land board in addressing the challenges of land ownership by the displaced persons in northern Uganda

 

Mitigating Religious fundamentalism; an inclusive approach to the war on terror

The activities conducted under this project included a baseline survey both qualitative and quantitive on religious fundamentalism in Uganda, a Pan African meeting on the role of religion to promote peace, security, and counter-violent extremism, radio discussions among religious leaders, the security, human rights workers and youths on issues aligned to religious extremism,

Advocacy for non-violence for pre, during and post-election period

Under this project, URI conducted consultative meetings and gathered information with community leaders, youths, and political leaders on the electoral related challenges in their communities and held district-based dialogues sessions with key party leaders and security personnel for a violent free election period in 5 key hot spot districts, conducted a nonviolent media campaign 

Building a citizens' agency in the Eastern Uganda

This project is aimed at building assertive, inclusive and equitable democratic societies using sugarcane production as the launching pad in the 6 districts of Bugiri, Kaliro, Mayuge, Iganga, Jinja and Kamuli in Eastern Uganda. In this process, building citizens actions through movement building is key in ensuring they advocate for improvement of processes and 

Building a coordinated, networked and collaborative Civil Society partnership for strengthening and supporting the (P/CVE) efforts of the local

This project is aimed at having a well-coordinated platform for collaboration, learning, networking, for PCVE focused CSOs in Uganda. As a network organization, URI is one of the founders of the current Civil Society Coalition Against Violent Extremism (CiSCAVE) in Uganda and also hosts it. 

Building Tolerance in Education Systems in Uganda Project

This is a study project aimed to facilitate greater understanding of Uganda’s Islamic education system—including structures, strengths, and needs of Uganda’s formal and informal madrasas—on the part of Ugandan Muslim, educational, and government stakeholders as well as international stakeholders; and to provide knowledge and recommendations

Enhancing Cross Border Security and Counter Terrorism Coordination between Uganda and Kenya

This is a study assessment aimed to better understand the security needs and challenges of security actors and cross-border communities at the Kenya-Uganda border. It focuses on security challenges affecting a southern segment of the border along Uganda’s Mayuge, Namayingo, Bugiri, and Busia Districts and Kenya’s Busia, Siaya, and Homa Bay Counties.
